Halgorithm: Simplified standard Baselard manip description, added stub for no cutscene skip version

The Baselard manip is a manip which drops a Baselard from a Zombie at the very start of the game. It is a simple manip which can be performed on any version of the game, and is used in every non-NG+ Soma speedrun category. Its only requirement is that the player can skip cutscenes, unlocked by completing the game once.

Standard Baselard manip
# Slash 3 times anywhere in the first room.
# After the door closes, short hop and throw a spear from anywhere on the slope to kill the first Zombie. The timing of the first spear throw doesn't matter much as long as the first Zombie dies.
# At the middle of the pyramid-shaped pile of bricks in the background, roughly when the front of Soma's head touches the dark vertical line separating the top two bricks, short hop and immediately throw a second spear.
# As soon as you land from the hop, quickly hop again and throw a third spear at the edge of the brick pile.
# The farthest Zombie should die to the third spear slightly before the closer Zombie dies to the second spear, which should drop the Baselard.

If running the Any% or All Bosses categories where gaining XP early on is important, it can be useful to also throw a fourth spear when Soma's head touches the edge of the column in the background, which can kill one or two Zombies that always spawn there. An early throw will kill one Zombie, a perfect throw will kill both, and a late throw will miss both.

Video tutorial
by Chewy4u

Tips
You can hold up+right the entire time to make the inputs for walking and throwing the spears simpler.

If the closer Zombie doesn't die from your second spear because the spear vanished, that means you threw it too early from too far left of the bricks pile midway line.

Similarly, if the closer Zombie doesn't die from your second spear landed because it landed too far to the right of it and missed, that means you threw it too late from too far right of the bricks pile midway line.

If both Zombies die but no Baselard drops, it's because your third spear throw was too late and the farther Zombie didn't die on the first possible frame.

No cutscene skip Baselard manip
If the player does not have the ability to skip cutscenes from finishing the game once, an alternate Baselard manip can be used which requires a frame-perfect input on the spear throw.
Buffer right during the hard landing, then stop holding right after you run into the Skeleton.

Most Soma categories make heavy use of RNG manipulation sequences (commonly called "manips") to guarantee that certain items or souls always drop from specific enemies. This allows speedrunners to utilize routes which would otherwise require impossibly low drop odds to succeed.

Overview
Whenever a new game is started or a save file is loaded, the RNG seed will always be reset to the same value. Depending on the room Soma loads into, it is sometimes possible for the player to perform standardized movements and actions to advance the RNG deterministically, until it reaches a value which produces a desired drop from a specific enemy.

Julius mode is unable to perform manips, as it has no method to suspend and reload the game.

Depending on the room Soma loads into, it is sometimes possible for the player to perform standardized movements and actions to advance RNG deterministically to a value which produces a desired drop from a specific enemy.

Julius mode is unable to perform manips, as it has no method to suspend and reload the game.
Baselard manip is used in the standard route for every category except NG+. It is performed at the very start of the game, and is a fundamental manip Soma runners should know.

The Baselard manip is a manip to obtain the Baselard weapon drop from a Zombie in the first corridor after starting the game. The Baselard is useful because of its high base damage compared to all other weapons available early on in the game.

Cutscene skip version
This is the standard version of Baselard manip, performed at the beginning of every standard route for non-NG+ Soma categories. It requires having beaten the game once in order to be able to skip the intro cutscene, which would otherwise make RNG calls.

# Slash 3 times anywhere in the first room.
# After the door closes, short hop and throw a spear anywhere on the slope to kill the first Zombie.
# The farthest Zombie should die to the third spear just before the closer Zombie dies to the second spear, which should drop the Baselard.

For the Any% and All Bosses categories where gaining XP early on is important, it can be useful to also throw a fourth spear when Soma's head touches the edge of the column in the background, potentially killing one or two Zombies which always spawn there. An earlier throw will kill one Zombie, whereas a later throw will kill both. Too late of a throw will miss both.

Troubleshooting
You can hold up+right the entire time to make the inputs for walking and throwing the spears simpler.

If the closer Zombie doesn't die from your second spear because the spear vanished, that means you threw it too early from too far left of the bricks pile midway line.

Similarly, if the closer Zombie doesn't die from your second spear landed because it landed too far to the right of it and missed, that means you threw it too late from too far right of the bricks pile midway line.

If both Zombies die but no Baselard drops, it's because your third spear throw was too late and the farther Zombie didn't die on the first possible frame.

It requires having beaten the game once in order to be able to skip cutscenes.

Explanation
* Slash 3 times anywhere in the first room.
* After the door closes, short hop and throw a spear anywhere on the slope to kill the first Zombie. The timing of the first spear throw doesn't matter much as long as the first Zombie dies.
* At the middle of the pyramid-shaped pile of bricks in the background, roughly when the front of Soma's head touches the dark vertical line separating the top two bricks, short hop and immediately throw a second spear.
* As soon as you land from the hop, quickly hop again and throw a third spear at the edge of the brick pile.
* The farthest Zombie should die to the third spear just before the closer Zombie dies to the second spear, which should drop the Baselard.

The Baselard manip is a manip to obtain the Baselard weapon drop from a zombie in the first zombie corridor after starting the game. The Baselard is useful because of its high base damage compared to all other weapons available early on in the game.

Cutscene skip version
This is the standard version of Baselard manip, performed at the beginning of every standard route for non-NG+ Soma categories.

For categories where it's important to gain extra XP early on (Any% and All Bosses), it can be useful to also throw a fourth spear when Soma's head touches the edge of the column in the background, potentially killing one or both extra zombies which always spawn there. An earlier throw will kill one zombie, whereas a later throw will both zombies. Too late of a throw will miss both.

Troubleshooting
On the zombie corridor screen, you can hold up+right the entire time to make the inputs for walking and throwing the spears simpler.

Both versions of the manip can optionally finish with a soulverlap to save roughly 1 second, at the cost of 59 HP. Before the killing blow, walk to the right far enough to that when you are knocked to the right when you jump. The instant you land after the knockback, jump and slash to the left. The final slash must connect before Creaking Skull's bone slam attack hits the floor and creates stone particles, which advance RNG.

Most Soma categories make heavy use of RNG manipulation sequences (commonly called "manips") to guarantee that specific items always drop from certain enemies. This allows runners to utilize routes which would otherwise require impossibly low drop odds to succeed.

Overview
Whenever a new game is started or a save file is loaded, the RNG seed will always be reset to the same value. From that point, a runner can perform movements and actions which deterministically advance the RNG value to one that produces the desired drop.
